What is an XML Sitemap?
An XML sitemap is a structured list of the important pages on your website that you want search engines to crawl and index. It acts as a roadmap for Google, Bing and other crawlers, helping them discover new or deep pages faster—especially on large sites, new domains, or sites with weak internal linking.
Why it matters
Sitemaps improve crawl efficiency, speed up indexing of new content, and surface pages that might otherwise be missed.
Who should use it
Any website owner, SEO, or developer who needs a clean, standards-compliant sitemap without writing XML by hand.
Output format
Valid XML following the sitemaps.org protocol, ready to upload to your site root or submit in Google Search Console.
How to use this tool
- Collect the URLs you want indexed (homepage, key landing pages, blog posts, product pages, etc.).
- Paste them into the box—one URL per line. The tool accepts both full URLs and bare domains (https:// is added automatically).
- Click Generate Sitemap. A valid
sitemap.xmlappears with lastmod, changefreq and priority. - Use Copy or Download to save the file, then upload it to your website root (e.g.
https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml). - Submit the sitemap URL in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.
Best practices
- Include only canonical, indexable URLs (no noindex, redirects, or parameter URLs).
- Keep individual sitemap files under 50,000 URLs / 50 MB; use a sitemap index for larger sites.
- Update the sitemap when you publish or remove important pages.
- Reference the sitemap in your robots.txt:
Sitemap: https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. - Prefer absolute URLs with the correct protocol (https).
